First Lieutenant Will by Julian Lee

"Will, I need proof, right now, that you're all right."

"Sam, I'm fine."

"That is not so much proof."

"I'm calling you from Andrews Air Force Base. Could I do that if I weren't all right?"

"Yes. I think *you* could find a way to."

"We weren't hit, Sam."

"You were shot at, Will."

"He wasn't shooting at me."

"They weren't shooting at Josh, either. This has to stop happening."

"It's a hazard of the job, Sam."

"I can count on my hands the number of times Presidential aides have been shot at in the last twenty years, Will. Two of them have been us."

"I really wish I was with you right now. I wish I could look you in the eye and convince you that none of this is your fault."

"Instead, you're going to Cheyenne."

"It's my weekend, Sam. I don't have a choice in the matter."

"Couldn't you ask for a dispensation for a medical emergency?"

"What medical emergency?"

"Your boyfriend is having a nervous breakdown."

"You're not having a nervous breakdown, Sam."

"Well, I'm definitely having a panic attack. That has to get you some kind of personal leave."

"Do you really want me to say that to my C.O.?"

"Will it get you out of this trip?"

"It'll get me right on out of the Air Force."

"I hate the Air Force."

"In fact, you don't."

"You hate it, too."

"Not today."

"Will, they're court-martialing two men for thinking for themselves. That doesn't bother you at all?"

"CJ sincerely believes you can stand an egg on end at the exact moment of the equinox. Everyone makes mistakes."

"Who's CJ in this analogy?"

"The Air Force."

"I'm not entirely convinced that you're okay."

"Sam--"

"You got shot at today, Will, and now you're going to the other side of the country. I'm going to keep worrying until you show up at my door in one piece again."

"Then I promise to show up at your door in one piece again the instant I'm back in Washington."

"Please do."

"Thank you for worrying about me, Sam."

"No more than you worry about me."

"Except that you're not supposed to know about that."

"You're a cream puff, Bailey. Everybody knows it."

"You know what the worst part about tonight was?"

"Getting shot at?"

"I didn't get to prove that I can hit the fifth row in the press room."

"You can't hit the fifth row, Will."

"I was going to win back every cent I lost from Debbie. The woman is a hustler."

"Is it *terribly* embarrassing, getting cleaned out by the President's secretary?"

"Oh, darn. Would you look at that? We're boarding."

"I'd better see you the *instant* you get home. Go fight the good fight, Lieutenant."
